Andrew Selinka

Managing Director

Andrew grew up near New York City and founded Academic Expeditions in 2003 after working with many different educational travel tour companies and international schools over the years. He realized that there was a real need for a company that offered high quality travel experiences delivered with integrity and a focus on the clients needs. Andrew is proud of what he and his incredibly talented staff at Academic Expeditions have been able to create, and the team’s commitment to providing exceptional educational travel experiences for each and every client.

Kara Williams-Mawyer

Director of Finance

Kara grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia. She is a 1999 graduate of the University of Virginia. Kara spent 9 years working as an underwriter for a large insurance company. After being introduced to educational student travel she decided to leave the corporate world to pursue a career as a financial officer with Academic Expeditions. Kara and her family reside in central Virginia where they enjoy a recreational life in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Isaiah Mosteller

Director of Education, Program Director & Guide

While Isaiah grew up in rural Oklahoma, the seeds of curiosity for the larger world were planted in him. In college, he earned a BS in Elementary Education and a Masters in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management, and found opportunities for the global education of travel and cultural exchange. His experiences abroad include working in the UK, Peace Corps in the Marshall Islands, recreation work in Japan, and cultural explorations of Latin America. Such experiences have inspired him to both plan and guide relevant travel experiences for others. Besides leading trips in Eastern US for 18 years, he has also led trips around Europe and Latin America. Isaiah, his wife Kim and son Walker live in Asheville, NC where they enjoy being outdoors, playing music with friends, and partaking in all the local eccentricities.

Rebekah Hancock

Director of Logistics, Program Director

Rebekah grew up in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She is a 2006 graduate of Peace College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Leadership Studies. Rebekah has 5 years of corporate experience in marketing and operations. However, travel has always been a large passion in her life and has led her to pursue her interests by joining Academic Expeditions. Rebekah currently resides in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Kristin Peterson

Director of International Programs

Kristin is an East Coast native with strong roots in Pennsylvania. For over 10 years, she has been leading educational tours throughout North America and Europe. Kristin has a Masters in Comparative Literature and French and is an ITMI certified tour director. She is a GWU certified event manager, and licensed sightseeing guide in New York City and Washington, DC. Kristin enjoys bicycling, good food, and foreign languages, and especially loves creating travel itineraries that combine all three. Kristin lives in Paris, France, where she is often found munching on baguettes, shopping the Parisian street markets, and exploring the “hidden” corners of the city.

Tracy Roderick

Program Director & Guide

Tracy was born in Washington, DC and now resides in quiet Chesapeake Beach, Maryland. Tracy started out in the group travel industry right out of high school by working at her family-owned motor coach company. She later became the operations manager and after 22 years she decided to pursue her love of Washington and American history by becoming a DC Tour Guide. She loves sharing her love of history and the city with groups of all ages! When she is not guiding, you will find her at home with her sweet Golden Retrievers, Kirby & Murph.

Aaron Mertig

Program Director & Guide

Aaron grew up in very rural Northern Wisconsin, an hour south of Lake Superior, and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. After teaching middle school social studies for six years, he successfully transitioned to tour guiding which quickly became his love. After being a tour director for more than 10 years, which included being a licensed guide in Washington, DC, he was seeking some balance in his life. He was excited to join the Academic Expeditions team as a Director of Program Development and share his passion. Aaron, his 4 kids and their weiner dog, Oscar, currently reside in Hudson, WI.

Elitsa Somleva

Program Director

Elitsa was born and raised in Bulgaria and travel has always been a big part of her life. She received her Bachelors in Italian and Masters in Alternative Tourism and she has over 6 years of experience developing programs in the United States and Canada for international visitors. Her other big passion is food and she strongly believes that the best way to experience new cultures and places is through their cuisine. When she is not planning the next trip, you can find Elitsa leading scrumptious and educational food tours of San Francisco.

George Mastrovaselis

Program Director & Guide

A product of the Midwestern United States, George has devoted his entire professional career to education and travel. With a bachelors in International Relations and a Masters of Science in Education, George synthesizes these two fields to motivate young adults to explore the world. He believes there is fun, beauty and knowledge to be found in all places…one just needs to seek it out. Although his pastime is exploring the ‘out of reach’ places, he is just as comfortable at the local county fair or neighborhood barbecue.

Adrian DaSilva

Program Director & Guide

Adrian was born and raised in Hong Kong. With a BSEE and an MBA, he spent time working as a software engineer in Silicon Valley. He spent 2 years traveling around the world, and that love of travel eventually led him to becoming a tour guide. In addition to being ITMI certified, and having both DC and NYC guide licenses, he also speaks 3 languages. In his spare time, you’ll find him helping out at his parish church, hiking, reading, and designing escape room experiences. He’ll also be searching for the best places for ice cream, chocolate, candy, and bubble tea!

Dori Robinson

Program Director & Guide

Dori Robinson is an educator and traveler originally from Massachusetts. Her background is program and curriculum development, leadership training, and experiential education. She’s passionate about community engagement and has worked with various educational and non-profit organizations worldwide. She holds a Masters from New York University’s Steinhardt Program in Educational Theatre, and a B.A. from Brandeis University. She has led tours and service-learning trips all over the world. When not planning educational student travel, Dori can be found hiking, writing, or reading plays.

HANNAH FELDBERG-DUBIN

Director of Culture + Program Development

Hannah Feldberg-Dubin’s early experiences at summer camp and youth leadership led her to become the group facilitator and organizational consultant she is today. Hannah earned a Bachelor of Recreation Management at Acadia University and her Master’s in Leisure Studies at the University of Waterloo. In her master’s thesis titled “S’more Than Just Fun and Games”, she focused on understanding Positive Youth Development, Optimal Learning, Youth Programming, Experiential Education, and Knowledge Transfer exploring the impact of informal education programs. Hannah brings 15 years of design experience to creating intentional travel opportunities for our groups. When Hannah isn’t planning engaging trip programming with us, she’s either running her facilitation consulting firm, The Group Forward, or is running after her two young boys in Brooklyn, NY.

BOB BURNETTE

Program Director & Guide

Bob was born in Savannah, GA and raised in the mountains of Western NC. These areas are both steeped in tourism, so after graduating Mars Hill College with a BA in Business Administration, he became an employee of the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC working for a highly regarded institution in the travel industry. After meeting many colleagues there, he discovered ITMI in San Fransisco and completed training to become a certified guide and tour director. His first work as a professional guide landed him Washington, DC. For over 12 years, Bob has lead tours in the Washington DC area for students and adults. He is an avid lover of history and the Civil War era is his favorite part to speak and read about. In his spare time he enjoys playing guitar and seeing many concerts, traveling extensively (Iceland being his favorite so far), and eating good food wherever it may be. He and his wife Rachel have many adventures together traveling the globe when they can, and also enjoy being at home with their golden retriever Rory and their crazy tuxedo cat Frida.

WENDY SIGLER

Associate Program Specialist

Wendy grew up in Southern California, and currently resides in the Boise area of Idaho with her husband and 3 daughters. Academic Expeditions has provided the opportunity to work with the perfect blend of 3 of her greatest passions: young people, education and travel. A 13 year homeschool veteran, Wendy is especially excited to assist homeschool students, families and groups plan their trip of a lifetime. When she is not working, Wendy can usually be found completing her degree in business management, playing keys and singing in her band or hanging out with her family.
